Meet Y.E.P.'s Student Leaders!
Lissa Garcia
Co-Director

Hola! My name is Lissa and I am a third year from Chula Vista, California. I am majoring in Ethnic Studies and minoring in Education at UC Berkeley. My passion lies in growing and learning alongside youth of color and together creating and imagining a better world. Being a part of YEP has taught me the importance of community and creating a space for intergenerational learning. I am blessed to have met so many beautiful and inspiring families through YEP that remind me of home.

Emily Tinoco
Co-Director

Hello! My name is Emily and I am a first year from Northern California majoring in political science. Taking part in YEP plays a significant role in my education at Berkeley. Working alongside youth continues to teach me how important it is to bridge the gap between our community and higher education. I feel very privileged to take part in a program that creates a safe and loving environment for all.

Namita Chandra
Finance Chair

Hi I’m Namita and I’m a first year from Carlisle, Massachusetts, near Boston. I’m the new Finance Chair for YEP. I don’t really have any idea what I want to study but I know what I am interested in so that’s what I am pursuing in my first year at Cal. I want to continue to explore and figure out what I want to dedicate myself to. That is part of the reason why I joined YEP because I wanted to explore my various interests. What I love about YEP is how we are working locally and so close to Berkeley community and that there are amazing people that live just outside of our small area. I joined this club because I love working with kids, but what I found was that families and friends are also involved in our organization, which creates a genuine community. There is a lot to learn from other communities and I am happy to be a part of more than just one.

Evelyn Rivas
Outreach Chair

Greetings/Saludos! My name is Evelyn Rivas and I am a senior studying Social Welfare at UC Berkeley. I come from a Latinx/Chicanx background born and raised in the Los Angeles area. What I love most about the Youth Empowerment Program, is getting to build a community and a learning environment with both our youth and parents; it feels like a home away from home. I look forward to continue building relationships and making even the smallest difference in the educational lives of our community!
